Thanks, Mom
If you're a mother who has given birth, thank you for not aborting your child. If you're an adoptive mom, thank you for rescuing your child. If you're a mother who has sacrificed to stay at home or at least to be there when your children were there, you deserve high praise. If you've raised your children to be God-honoring adults who stand for what's right as much as or even more than you, you have the applause of heaven. If you've stayed married to your husband despite his selfishness and your own selfishness, you are a role model extraordinaire. Happy Mother's Day, mom. You're irreplaceable!

ALERT: Stop AB 2747, the California assisted suicide bill
People shouldn't be treated worse that dogs and cats euthanized at the animal shelter. But that's what AB 2747 would do to thousands of Californians, and ultimately, millions of Americans when other states copy California.

AB 2747 is on the floor of the California Assembly and could come up for a vote anytime. The bill would allow a doctor or a nurse to opine that a patient has "less than one year to live," and then ask depressed patients if they would like a pain-free death known as "palliative sedation." Falling prey to these suggestions will result in misled patients dying from dehydration within five days. They will literally shrivel to death, worse treatment than doomed animals at the pound.

AB 2747 is the fourth time the assisted suicide bill has been pushed by the Democrats in the California Legislature. But this time, instead of proposing to have doctors administer a lethal injection, AB 2747 would accomplish the same thing – quick death – by misusing the rare medical treatment known as "palliative sedation."

Until now, palliative sedation has only been used when death is imminent – with hours or days – and when strong pain medication was not enough. When sleep-inducing drugs were used, nutrition and hydration was not be removed. For, removing food and water would cause an unnatural, as opposed to natural, death.

Yet AB 2747 would change the law to allow a physician or nurse to pressure shocked and depressed patients into asking for a quick death. By transforming palliative sedation into a vehicle for assisted suicide, AB 2747 would transform doctors and nurses into killers, not healers or comforters. Just as the assisted-suicide bills of the last three years have been rejected, so should the California Legislature reject AB 2747. Assisted suicide lessens the value of human life.

People who are ill need support, spiritual care, and counseling if they are depressed and want to end their lives prematurely. Assisted suicide will ensure the death of innocent Californians at the hands of an increasingly unscrupulous insurance industry which regards dead people as cheaper to take care of.

TAKE ACTION RIGHT AWAY

Keep 'spanking' the anti-spanking bill
Good parents accused of spanking will be arrested, handcuffed, fingerprinted, and charged with criminal child abuse if AB 2943 becomes law in California.
Please take action RIGHT NOW to protect the God-given rights of parents who occasionally spank with a little paddle or other wooden implement to correct their child's misbehavior.

AB 2943 mixes loving, corrective discipline with hateful, harmful abuse. This is a very bad bill -- especially since there are already enough laws on the books targeting physical and sexual abuse.

The California Assembly Appropriations Committee has a May 23 deadline to pass or defeat AB 2943 and other bills on the suspense file. Please continue calling and emailing the committee members, your own state assemblymember, and Governor Schwarzenegger to urge them to oppose AB 2943.

TAKE ACTION

When unions bankrupt a city
Back in the 1970s, the city of Vallejo, 32 miles north of San Francisco, was faced with a power-hungry police union that demanded higher wages and "binding arbitration," which took wage controls out of the city council's hands. The police went on strike, compromising public safety in the process, and the city council caved to their demands. The police and fire unions have been in control ever since.

Over the past couple of decades, government unions have been in firm contol of Vallejo. They boosted their wages to 74% of city expenditures, vastly higher than most California cities, which spend around 60% on "public safety." The greedy union bosses eventually carved a $16 million hole into the city budget.

Chip Johnson of the San Francisco Chronicle, wrote, "At the time of the city's fiscal meltdown, the Vallejo firefighters union was angling for a 21 percent pay increase over the next three years. It's pretty difficult to feel bad for one of the highest-paid agencies in the state."

The bottom has fallen out. Because the government unions refused to decrease their bloated wages, the city of Vallejo has declared bankruptcy. This makes Vallejo the second city in California history to go bankrupt; with a population of 117,000, it's also California's largest. The city's credit is ruined, its reputation for paying its bills is shot, and businesses that provided goods and services probably won't ever get paid. Can you say stealing?

In addition to threatening local government finances, did you know that most government unions promote homosexuality and abortion and fund the candidates who put these anti-family values into law?

If you're a union member, you should learn how to resign from the union so you don't fund immorality. If you don't believe that government unions are attacking family values, here are just a few examples (look for the list of union supporters in these bills which are all now California law):

Government-run schools, colleges, libraries increasingly unsafe
There's more evidence that government's lack of moral standards are making public schools, public colleges, and public libraries increasingly unsafe for children and young adults. The news from the past week should convince us all that pro-family persons of faith should be in charge of schools and libraries to guard and protect children and adults alike.
