Pro-life advocates blast Pat Robertson for Rudy Giuliani endorsement
LifeNews 11/08/07
"Pat Robertson is leading pro-family voters astray by abandoning moral standards for government," Campaign for Children and Families president Randy Thomasson told LifeNews.com. "This shocking news is a 180-degree turn by the founder of the Christian Coalition. Pat Robertson is casting a blind eye to Rudy Giuliani's big-time advocacy" of abortion, Thomasson said.

Pat Robertson's Giuliani endorsement draws mixed reactions
Christian Post 11/08/07
Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, lambasted Robertson Wednesday for his support of the former New York mayor who is blacklisted by many conservatives for his pro abortion and gay rights stance. “Pat Robertson is leading pro-family voters astray by abandoning moral standards for government,” he said. Thomasson accused Robertson of “casting a blind eye” to Giuliani’s “big-time advocacy” of the homosexual, transsexual, bisexual agenda.

Capitol Alert (Sacramento Bee) 11/07/07
In a press release called "America's Pro-Family Leaders Selling Out Pro-Family Values," Randy Thomasson of the Campaign for Children and Families declares that "Pat Robertson is leading pro-family voters astray by abandoning moral standards for government." Charging that Robertson is "casting a blind eye to Rudy Giuliani's big-time advocacy of the transsexual, bisexual, and homosexual agenda," Thomasson offers his proof: Links to videos of a cross-dressing Giuliani, including one gender-bending spoof where Donald Trump buries his face in the mayor's, uh, cleavage.

Conservatives to Calif. parents: Leave K-12 public schools
OneNewsNow.com 11/05/07
A California pro-family leader and his organization are making the blunt pronouncement that because of two new laws signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger last month, it's time for parents and their children in the Golden State to exit the public school system. "It's time to exit the public schools because your children will be sexually indoctrinated if you leave them there," warns Randy Thomasson of Campaign for Children and Families (CCF).

Bill’s language contested
UCLA Daily Bruin 10/23/07
The Campaign for Children and Families, a socially conservative political organization, is concerned that changes in specific language regarding discrimination against sexual orientation and gender identity will lead to changes in the types of teaching materials used in classrooms.

Walking the line of mainstream California
Sacramento Bee 10/21/07
"Arnold Schwarzenegger demonstrates the negative consequences of electing a liberal Republican to office," said Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families. "Schwarzenegger fooled many California conservatives into voting for him. Yet now he's flip-flopped and stabbed them in the back."

Signature drive aims to rescind gay rights bill
Sacramento Bee / Contra Costa Times 10/21/07
But opponents argue SB 777 is stealth legislation hiding its true purpose, which they characterize as a push to promote homosexual, bisexual and transgender lifestyles among youths. "SB 777 introduces new mandates that will sexually indoctrinate schoolchildren as young as kindergarten," Randy Thomasson of Campaign for Children and Families said in a September letter urging Schwarzenegger to veto the bill.

But even if the referendum is “doable,” Randy Thomasson of the Sacramento-based Campaign for Children and Families, another pro-family lobbying group, says he doesn’t think it goes far enough. “While the voters could reject and stop SB-777, a successful ballot referendum is a one-time deal,” Thomasson told WorldNetDaily. “Despite good intentions, a referendum – 'the power of the electors to approve or reject statutes' – simply does not prohibit the California Legislature from passing the same school sexual indoctrination bill next year, the year after, or whenever."

California law against 'bias' brings challenges
Washington Times 10/20/07
Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families — which opposes both of the new laws — said the first law in particular requires "positive promotion" of lifestyles that "many parents find morally objectionable." Mr. Thomasson said even if it the ballot referendum does succeed, it is only temporary and the legislature can simply re-approve similar legislation. His group is encouraging every California parent to pull their children out of the state's public schools.

Arnold's gay ed. bill to be overturned?
CBNNews.com 10/20/07
A leader of another well-known traditional values group called on California's parents to take action. "We're calling upon every California parent to pull their child out of California's public school system," said Campaign for Children and Families President Randy Thomasson. "The so-called 'public schools' are no longer a safe environment for children. Under the new law, schoolchildren as young as kindergarten will be sexually indoctrinated and introduced to homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexuality, over the protests of parents, teachers and even school districts."

Gay rights measure targeted
Sacramento Bee 10/20/07
Opponents argue SB 777 is stealth legislation hiding its true purpose, which they characterize as a push to promote homosexual, bisexual and transgender lifestyles among youths. "SB 777 introduces new mandates that will sexually indoctrinate schoolchildren as young as kindergarten," Randy Thomasson of Campaign for Children and Families said in a September letter urging Schwarzenegger to veto the bill. Thomasson contends that "discriminatory bias" could apply to history books that don't laud homosexual figures or textbooks that portray marriage as only between a man and woman.

Constitutional change would fix 'Mom,' 'Dad' ban
WorldNetDaily.com 10/19/07
"A detailed, well-crafted constitutional amendment would wipe out SB 777 and prevent it from ever coming back again, no matter what the politicians or judges desired," said an analysis by Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families. He also warned it would be best if parents would simply withdraw their children from public schools. "When you can no longer protect your children, you must remove them from a threatening environment," he said.

Ban on 'Mom' and 'Dad' sparks call for exodus
WorldNetDaily.com 10/16/07
"We're calling upon every California parent to pull their child out of California's public school system," Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, told WND. "The so-called 'public schools' are no longer a safe emotional environment for children. Under the new law, schoolchildren as young as kindergarten will be sexually indoctrinated and introduced to homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality, over the protests of parents, teachers and even school districts," he said.

Schwarzenegger veto of gay "marriage" made meaningless by other bills
LifeSiteNews.com 10/15/07
"Schwarzenegger and the Democrat politicians have created the public image of homosexual 'marriages' in California," said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families (CCF), in response to the signing of AB 102. "It's hypocritical for Arnold Schwarzenegger to veto homosexual 'marriage' licenses and at the very same time aggressively promote the public image of gay and lesbian 'marriages' in every community for every child to see."

Governor blasted for signing 'sexual indoctrination' bills
CNSNews.com 10/15/07

A conservative group says private schools and home schooling will be the only sanctuary for California parents when two "school sexual indoctrination" laws take effect on Jan. 1. "Arnold Schwarzenegger has delivered young children into the hands of those who will introduce them to alternative sexual lifestyles," said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families (CCF), which helped lead the statewide charge against these bills.

Same-sex marriage backers go to TV
Sacramento Bee 10/08/07
But Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, said, "Most people know deep in their hearts that marriage is a very special relationship between a man and woman. "In the big picture, these house parties and events are only for these loosey-goosey liberals who already support the notion of homosexual marriages," Thomasson said.

Book banning efforts bring on title fights
Chicago Tribune 9/30/07
Simon and Schuster, the book's publisher, described "Tango" as intended for 4- to 8-year-olds. "The huge majority of parents would avoid this book if they knew it was brainwashing their children to support and experiment with homosexual behavior," said Randy Thomasson, president of the California-based Campaign for Children and Families.

U.S. Senate passed hate crime bill
XETV Fox 6 San Diego 9/28/07
But critics say the bill gives gays and lesbians special protections and criminalizes anyone who speaks out against homosexuality. Randy Thomasson, the president of the Campaign for Children and Families says, "This bill is completely unnecessary because every violent crime is a crime of hate. In actuality, this is more about promoting homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality than it is about preventing crime."

Clergy speak out for same-sex marriage
MediaNews Group (40+ California newspapers) 9/27/07
Members from some groups who defend marriage as an act between a man and a woman fear the courts will overturn the ban. "The bad news is the California Supreme Court is extremely likely to destroy the definition of marriage next year," said Randy Thomasson, one of the leading organizers for the VoteYesMarriage.com campaign. The campaign is seeking funding to place a marriage protection act on next year's ballot.

California group will do assisted suicide counseling after bill failed
LifeNews.com 9/26/07
However, Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, one of the leading coalition groups opposing the assisted suicide bill in the legislature, told the news service the new campaign sounded like California death squads" to him. He said he would ask authorities to investigate the new counseling service once it begins.

Now he can look them in the face
California Catholic Daily 9/22/07
Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, said he was disappointed by Sanders’ decision. “He is essentially saying that he has lied to the voters up until now and is engaging in nepotism, catering to his family, while trashing the people of San Diego’s vote on marriage."

Which way will Gov. Schwarzenegger go?
Sacramento Bee 9/19/07
Religious-based critics have asked volunteers to repeatedly dial the Republican governor to voice their opposition to the measures. In one e-mail, the Campaign for Children and Families asks supporters to call and write Schwarzenegger, with one piece of additional advice: "Don't forget to pray to God."

Service to help in suicide
Media News Group (40 California newspapers) 9/18/07
But Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, part of an opposition coalition, said it sounded like formation of "California death squads" to him. Thomasson, pointing to laws against suicide, called for an investigation by authorities once the consultation service begins.

Gay textbook bill attracts protest in State Capitol
NBC11.com 9/12/07
"This is not teaching them the birds and the bees," said Randy Thomasson of the Campaign for Children and Families. "This is saying a boy can wear a girl's dress. This is saying you might want to engage in bisexuality or transsexuality. This would revolutionize sex education."

Bill could make textbooks portray gays positively
CBS13 9/12/07
Fireworks are expected to fly at the State Capital building as homosexuality and school textbooks take center stage. The Campaign for Children and Families plans to protest the passage of two bills headed for the Governor's desk. The bills would require school textbooks and activities to show homosexuality in a positive light.

'Mom,' 'dad,' targeted by California bias ban
WorldNetDaily.com 9/12/07
Randy Thomasson, of the Campaign for Children and Families, said the idea is just wrong. "SB 777 requires textbooks, instructional materials and school-sponsored activities to positively portray cross-dressing, sex-change operations, homosexual 'marriages' and all aspects of homosexuality and bisexuality, including so-called 'gay history,'" he said.

Gay 'marriage' bill approval adds to California woes
ChristianPost.com 9/10/07
“Time is running out for generous souls to leave the legacy of marriage to future generations through the VoteYesMarriage.com amendment,” said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families (CCF) and one of the drive’s organizers, in a statement. The VoteYesMarriage initiative gives California voters the right and ability to override the judges and politicians in the decision to protect marriage as between a man and a woman.

Librarians exhibit controversial books
Ventura County Star 9/08/07
But Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, a statewide group that promotes conservative social values, thinks parents should do more. Libraries, he said, have books that are full of profanity and promote drug use or homosexuality. So parents should go to the library with their child and review the books they choose before checking them out, he said. "The library will not protect the moral decency of children," Thomasson said. "Those days are over."

Upcoming Democratic debate on gay/lesbian lifestyles
City News Service 8/09/07
The author of a proposed initiative that would enshrine California's same-sex marriage ban in the state constitution called the field of Democratic presidential candidates "strong advocates of the transsexual-bisexual-homosexual agenda, which is blatantly attacking marriage for a man and a woman." "It's obvious that these politicians cannot be trusted to protect what's good and right as an example for impressionable children," Randy Thomasson said.

California handing out marriage privileges
WorldNetDaily.com 6/27/07
"Why get married if the government will give you all the honor, rights and benefits of marriage for merely shacking up?" asked Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, a leading California-based pro-family organization that opposes SB 11. "And where's the governor on this? Californians want him to say he'll veto this nonsensical bill, because it functionally abolishes marriage."

Assisted suicide dies in Calif. legislature
Baptist Press 6/18/07
"Everyone who respects innocent human life should be grateful that California has resisted placing lethal weapons into the hands of physicians," Randy Thomasson, president of the state's Campaign for Children and Families, said in a written release. "Depressed patients need love, family, spiritual counsel, and proven pain medication, not [to be] handed what amounts to a gun to the head."

Assisted suicide bill dies of natural causes
Christian Post 6/11/07
"Doctors should be healers, not killers," said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families (CCF), in a statement. "Jack Kevorkian may be on the loose again, but the defeat of this suicide bill means 'Dr. Death' won't be employed in California anytime soon."

Bill seeks gender identity guideline
Ventura County Star 6/10/07
President Randy Thomasson said the bill would change curricula in schools, including instructional materials and school activities. “The victims here are the millions of children in schools who don’t consider themselves as LGBT,” Thomasson said. “It would teach all aspects of homosexuality to children as young as kindergarten, and all without parental supervision. We are calling on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to veto this bill.”

Assisted suicide bill, lacking support, is shelved
San Jose Mercury News/Contra Costa Times/Oakland Tribune 6/07/07
Bill supporters conceded the release of Jack Kevorkian from prison in Michigan did not help their cause. Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, which opposed the measure, said, "Jack Kevorkian may be on the loose again, but the defeat of this suicide bill means `Dr. Death' won't be employed in California anytime soon."

Calif. Senate passes bill giving marriage rights to unwed couples
ChristianPost.com 6/06/07
“If SB 11 becomes the law, marriage will be functionally abolished,” said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families (CCF), a California pro-family group, in a statement. “Awarding marriage rights to people who shack up but refuse to get married is completely ridiculous.”

Same-sex conjugal visits for inmates stirs debate
CNSNews.com 6/06/07
Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, went even further, objecting to conjugal visits for all of 170,000 inmates in the state, whether homosexual or heterosexual. "These are unsupervised sex visits in trailers or rooms, and the guards can't go in there," Thomasson told Cybercast News Service. "It's the main way of smuggling in contraband for some of these inmates" and can also further the spread sexually transmitted diseases, he added.

'Marriage' to become museum piece
WorldNetDaily.com 6/06/07
"Why get married if you can get all the legal rights and benefits of marriage without being committed?" Thomasson asked. "This bad bill severely weakens the institution of marriage and will motivate unwed parents to remain uncommitted. We call upon Gov. Schwarzenegger to veto this nonsensical bill that robs marriage of its uniqueness and honor.

Sacramento Bee 6/05/07
No Republican senator spoke against the bill during the floor session.
But Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, which lobbies for conservatives causes, warned that if SB 11 becomes law, "marriage will be functionally abolished" in California. "Why get married if you can get all the legal rights and benefits of marriage without being committed?" Thomasson said in a statement. "This bad bill severely weakens the institution of marriage and will motivate unwed parents to remain uncommitted."

California gay inmates get conjugal visits
Associated Press 6/02/07
Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, objects to conjugal visits for both gay and straight inmates. "These are unsupervised sex visits in trailers or rooms, and the guards can't go in there," Thomasson said. "It's the main way of smuggling contraband for some of these inmates." Inmates also can spread sexually transmitted diseases, regardless of their sexual orientation, he said.

Gays and lesbians allowed conjugal visits in prisons
San Francisco Chronicle 6/01/07
Groups that oppose gay marriage and domestic partnerships were upset with the new regulations. "The ACLU's assault on marriage in California has produced this nonsensical policy that rubs the average voter the wrong way,'' said Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families.

California Senate passes homosexual education
The 700 Club / CBNNews.com 5/25/07
"The notion of forcing children to support controversial sexual lifestyles is shocking and appalling to millions of fathers and mothers," added Thomasson. "Parents don't want their children taught to become homosexual or bisexual or to wonder whether they need a sex-change operation. SB 777 will shatter the academic purpose  of education by turning every government school into a sexual indoctrination center."

Bill mandating pro-homosexual, bisexual, transgender material in schools passes
LifeSiteNews.com 5/25/07
“Parents are angry at the Democrats for passing this school sexual indoctrination bill and frustrated that Republicans did little to fight it,” said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, a leading California-based pro-family organization.

Lawmakers pass redefinition of 'sex'
WorldNetDaily.com 5/24/07
Randy Thomasson, of the Campaign for Children and Families, said it's just wrong. "SB 777 requires textbooks, instructional materials and school-sponsored activities to positively portray cross-dressing, sex-change operations, homosexual 'marriages' and all aspects of homosexuality and bisexuality, including so-called 'gay history,'" he said. "Silence on these sexual lifestyles will not be allowed."

Sex-ed supported by 89% of California parents
San Jose Mercury News 5/24/07
Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families in Southern California, denounced "comprehensive sex education" as a euphemism for "teaching children that they are expected to have sex, that they are stupid not to have condoms in their purse and that they can be transported off campus for a secret abortion behind their parents' backs."

Assembly passes bill on name changes
San Jose Mercury News 5/08/07
Most Republicans voted against the bill, which was opposed by the Campaign for Children and Families, a statewide organization with a conservative agenda. This is creating same-sex 'marriages' in name by calling two homosexual men `Mr. and Mr. Smith' to give them the honor and appearance of marriage," said Randy Thomasson, president of the group, in a statement. "This violates the spirit of Proposition 22, in which California voters demanded that marriage stay between a man and a woman."

Parents who spank being made criminals
WorldNetDaily.com 4/19/07
"AB755 biases police officers, social workers, district attorneys and juries to regard traditional methods of child discipline as hateful, harmful abuse," said Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families.

Modified spanking bill moves forward -- not so restrictive
San Francisco Chronicle 4/18/07
"This out-of-touch Legislature should stop persecuting good parents," said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, a conservative group based in Sacramento.
"Some bills just deserve to die because they are an invasion to families all over the state," he said.

CA gender education rearing its head again
OneNewsNow.com 4/11/07
California activist Randy Thomasson of Campaign for Children and Families says State Senator Sheila Kuehl's two bills in the current session, SB 777 and AB 374, would introduce sweeping changes in the state's public education system. "Those bills," he asserts, "would require that transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality be taught to school children in the textbooks, instructional materials, the school-sponsored activities, and in the teacher training."

California Democrats push, yet again, for homosexual marriage
LifeSiteNews.com 4/11/07
Randy Thomasson, President of the Campaign for Children and Families, condemned what he saw as activist politicians and accused them of violating their oath of office to uphold the constitution of the state of California. "AB 43 shamelessly violates the California Constitution, which expressly prohibits the Legislature from repealing voter-approved ballot initiatives. This is political arrogance in the extreme…”

Homosexual marriage minces west to California
WorldNetDaily.com 4/11/07
"Marriage was created for a man and a woman, a husband and a wife," said Thomasson. "This natural and sacred institution has always been supported by the people of California. But apparently, the Democrat politicians have no problem destroying the democratic vote of the people." He said the only alternative now is for voters to rise up again "to protect marriage for a man and a woman, this time in the California Constitution, far above the reach of corrupt politicians and judges."

California committee accused of 'redefining marriage'
CNSNews.com 4/10/07
"Shame on the Democrat politicians for attacking and redefining marriage," said Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families in a news release. "This is an attack upon the voters and our system of government as much as it is an attack on marriage," he noted.

Committee OKs gay marriage bill
Associated Press and throughout California 4/10/07
The bill's opponents, agreeing with Schwarzenegger, said the state Constitution prevents the Legislature from authorizing gay marriages unless voters first overturn Proposition 22. "The Constitution says clearly that this Legislature cannot trump the vote of the people of California," said Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families. "The vote of the people of California seven years ago was to say only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."

Critics blast California 'homosexuality promotion' bill
CNSNews.com 3/30/07
"[The bill] means good-bye to textbooks that say you're either a boy or a girl, that marriage is only for a man and a woman, and that the natural family is a father, a mother and their children," CCF President Randy Thomasson said in a press release.
"Now the Democrats in the state legislature want to sexually indoctrinate children to believe they may be homosexuals, bisexuals or transsexuals."

Physician-assisted suicide bill approved by California Judiciary Committee
LifeSiteNews.com 3/28/07
“Doctors must be healers, not killers,” said CCF president Randy Thomasson. “Depressed patients need love, family, spiritual counsel, and proven pain medication, not handed what amounts to a gun to the head. AB 374 must not become law. Because HMOs (Health Maintenance Organization--restricted health insurance) are the controlling force for so many physicians, it's inevitable that hospitals and hospices would soon view patients as more expensive alive than dead.”

Bill muzzles biblical view of homosexuality
Baptist Press 3/28/07
The California-based Campaign for Children and Families said the bill could have a far-reaching impact -- especially on the issue of "gay marriage." "(B)ecause parental units are gender-specific, married couples or a family with a 'father and a mother' would be portrayed as mere stereotypes –- outdated ideas -- and could be prohibited from textbooks because their discriminatory inclusion 'reflects adversely,'" CCF said in a statement.

Emergency contraceptive
KTXL Ch. 40 Sacramento 3/20/07
Randy Thomasson of the Campaign for Children and Families says Planned Parenthood is promoting promiscuity. He contends the morning after pill is the easy way out for irresponsible young people, and that it will be abused. "I can see twenty year old men giving this to 15 year old girls they want to have sex with."

California bill would mandate STD vaccine for sixth grade girls
OneNewsNow.com 3/16/07
Thomasson, president of the Sacramento-based Campaign for Children and Families, says AB 16 usurps parental rights. He further contends that the proposed vaccination would not comprehensively protect women from the consequences of HPV. One point of debate is that it would not protect against all strains of HPV or all types of cervical cancer. He believes if lawmakers were truly concerned about women’s health, they would emphasize health education.

Bill to require vaccinations against HPV
Associated Press and throughout California 3/12/07
But Randy Thomasson, president of the conservative Campaign for Children and Families, said the so-called opt-out option would be difficult for some parents to use. "Some parents are uncomfortable writing letters," he said. "Some parents are not aggressive and strong-willed." He wants the bill amended to put the onus on schools to get written permission from parents before imposing the vaccination requirement. He also wants language in the measure stating that abstinence is the only sure way to avoid sexually transmitted HPV. "The broad majority of parents think the vaccine holds hope, but they want to be asked their permission," he said. "It's their child, not the state's child."

Guiliani tackles questions about his family life
New York Sun 3/6/07
One leader of social conservatives in California said the new publicity would hurt Mr. Giuliaini's bid. "One divorce is a failure; a second divorce reveals a significant character problem," Randy Thomasson of the Campaign for Children and families said. "Giuliani put his family through the blender, and they're still hurting over it."

Discovery Channel accused of attacking Christianity
CNSNews.com 2/27/07
"As a born-again Christian, the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is an immovable foundation of what I know is true," Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, said in a statement.
Quoting the New Testament book of 1 Corinthians, Thomasson highlighted the centrality of the resurrection, "If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith."

California plan would criminalize spanking
WorldNetDaily.com 2/23/07
Randy Thomasson, the president of the CCF, a California-based pro-family group, said it would just be a matter of time before moms and dads would be arrested and cuffed for trying to discipline a youngster. "We are calling upon California voters to rise up and demand that the government keep its big nose out of the family home," he said. "Lawmakers should focus on protecting children from sexual predators and real abusers, instead of targeting good, loving parents who implement healthy, occasionally spanking as part of their children's upbringing."

Softer 'anti-spanking' bill introduced
Ventura County Star 2/23/07
Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, said the bill would make it impossible for women who are not physically strong to effectively discipline their children.
"It especially targets mothers," Thomasson said, explaining that often a mother's hand "doesn't cause the sting that they need to reform their child's behavior."

Lawmaker won't pursue spanking ban
Sacramento Bee 2/23/07
Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, which lobbies on social issues, said AB 755 continues to disrespect parents by not allowing them to discipline kids as they see fit. Limiting corporal punishment could leave women at a disadvantage, he said, because a mother's hands are not always as strong as a father's, so the female might need to use a switch or belt to administer appropriate discipline. "Spanking has a purpose, which is to get the child to respect your words next time," Thomasson said.

Proposal to ban spanking is revised
Los Angeles Times 2/23/07
Randy Thomasson, president of the nonprofit Campaign for Children and Families, said Lieber's bill would rob parents of a disciplinary tool — mothers in particular, because they often don't have a man's strength. "There's too many moms who know if they spank their young boys with a hand," Thomasson said, "it doesn't cause the sting that they need to reform their behavior. "How dare we say that our grandparents — who had a switch or even a shoe training them to respect authority and obey the rules — that they were abused," Thomasson said. "You meet a lot of Americans who are glad they were spanked because they needed it when they were little rebels."

No-spanking bid softened
San Jose Mercury News and around California 2/23/07
Randy Thomasson of the conservative Campaign for Children and Families said in a news release that Lieber's new bill still goes too far and is unfair to mothers who "use a little stick or switch or paddle to correct the rebellious defiance of their children."

Lesbian couple rejected for marriage license in Beverly Hills -- again
City News Service 2/14/07
"Valentine's Day marks love between a man and a woman," said Randy Thomasson, president of the Sacramento-based Campaign for Children and Families, which he described as a statewide pro family organization. "Those who are attacking marriage by virtually beating down the doors of county clerks' offices are not eligible for marriage because they are not a man and a woman together. To have a civil society, people have to follow the rules."

Gay couples to get 'certificates of inequality'
Associated Press 2/3/07
Some critics told the Bee that it was wrong of Oakley, an elected official, to distribute her certificates from a public building. Clerk protests gay marriage ban
Sacramento Bee 2/2/07
"The people pay government officials to implement the law and to faithfully execute the law ... not to ridicule the law and perform stunts that advocate the overthrow of marriage," said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, which lobbies on social issues.

Calif. HPV, cervical cancer bill stirs up controversy
NBC11.com 1/24/07
"To protect women from cervical cancer, a deadly disease, you need more than the vaccine. You actually need to protect yourself from sexual contact before marriage," said Randy Thomasson of the Campaign For Children And Families. Thomasson said abstinence is the best protection for teenage girls.

Proposed law against spanking toddlers in Calif. causes stir

“This punish-you-if-you-spank-your-children bill is intrusive, unenforceable, and the most blatant violation of parental rights I’ve ever seen,” Randy Thomasson, president of CCF, said in a Jan. 19 news release. “What’s next, jail time for parents who raise their voices at their children? We already have enough legitimate laws prohibiting physical abuse of children, and this proposal is certainly not one of them.”

California pro-family activist Randy Thomasson also has some deep concerns about Lieber's suggested measure -- among them, why the government continues to think it knows best how to raise children. "This nonsensical bill injects the big nose of government into the family home, where it doesn't belong," says Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families. "Government regulation of parents' discipline wipes out the right of parents to raise their own children. This is wrong. God gave children to parents, not to the state."

Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, called it the wackiest bill of the year. "This punish-you-if-you-spank-your-children bill is intrusive, unenforceable, and the most blatant violation of parental rights I've ever seen," he said. "What's next, jail time for parents who raise their voices at their children? Vaccines deliver an extra boost

But Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, a statewide pro-family organization, said parents should be told the HPV vaccine is "not going to stop all forms of HPV and not going to protect them from all avenues of cervical cancer and other sexually transmitted diseases."

New bills focus on 'saving lives'

But the Campaign for Children and Families dislikes the bill. "The vaccine to help prevent cervical cancer is promising, but without risk-avoidance education, young girls are still being set up for broken promises and broken hearts," said Randy Thomasson, the group's president. "A caring and sensitive policy would offer, not mandate, the HPV vaccine, and would include education on the risks of unmarried sexual contact, because sexual abstinence is the only 100 percent effective method to avoid contracting chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhea, HIV-AIDS, other strains of HPV and out-of-wedlock pregnancy," Thomasson said.
