Return to CCF in the News index page Drive against gay marriage to make Inland stops today Michelle DeArmond, Press Enterprise February 18, 2005
A conservative lobbying group plans to stop in the Inland area today to campaign against a bill that would legalize gay marriage in California.
The Campaign for Children and Families is traveling across the state this week to build opposition to Assembly Bill 19, a measure that would establish marriage as "a personal relationship arising out of a civil contract between two persons." Current law recognizes only marriage between a man and a woman.
The nonprofit group plans to stop at 10 a.m. at 3737 Main St., Riverside, and at 1 p.m. at 82675 Highway 111, Indio. The state tour, dubbed "Keep Your Hands Off Marriage," began Monday and ends Saturday.
The group and its president, Randy Thomasson, sued San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and San Francisco's county clerk for allowing same-sex marriages last year.
