Among the seven justices on the California Supreme Court, all but one was nominated by a Republican Governor. But this "moderate" court has struck down parental consent for abortion, redefined parenthood to include two "mothers," and forced private businesses to treat homosexual "partners" as if they were married.

In his questions and remarks, Chief Justice Ron George didn't display how he would rule, but went out of his way to note that other state supreme courts decisions on marriage have been close votes. He predicted his court's decision could also come down to one vote. George is up for reelection in 2010.

12:30 p.m. After the marathon three-and-a-half hour hearing, the legal teams and their supporters went outside. Unlike two years ago, when this case was in the state appeals court, pro-family citizens brought signs honoring marriage and the 2000 vote for Proposition 22.

San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera and lesbian legal counsel Therese Stewart prepare to speak to the TV cameras. Their "fundamental right to marry whoever you want" argument is so radical, it has not been accepted by any state supreme court in the U.S.

At the podium: Pro-family attorneys Glen Lavy of Alliance Defense Fund, representing the Prop. 22 Legal Defense and Education Fund, and Mathew Staver of Liberty Counsel, representing Campaign for California Families. They had done solid jobs arguing the rational basis for the state's definition of marriage, including that children are best served by both a father and a mother.

In the courtroom, Mat Staver made eloquent arguments for the meaning and purpose of marriage. Outside, with client Randy Thomasson at his side, Mat tells the media that the City of San Francisco doesn't just want inclusion in marriage, but wants to deconstruct marriage.

Rev. Troy Perry, founder of the homosexual "church" movement. His Metropolitan Community Churches number 250 congregations in 26 countries. He and his "husband" Philip have a Canadian marriage license and are now suing for a California marriage license with the help of their famous attorney, Gloria Allred.

Randy Thomasson, head of Campaign for Children and Families and Campaign for California Families, explains that homosexual "marriages" would become role models for children. The photographers perked up when Randy held up the homosexual-marriage book for children called "Daddy's Wedding."

1:30 p.m. After a hard day's work representing California families, Mat and Randy leave the courthouse area, with more opportunities to speak truth in the media awaiting them. The California Supreme Court will issue a ruling for or against marriage by June 2.
